The Department of Family and Community Medicine was established in 1994 at the Faculty of Medicine and teaches family and community medicine to fourth-year students. The department is considered one of the most important clinical departments in the Faculty of Medicine and integrates with the other clinical departments in the fourth and fifth years of the faculty to achieve the faculty's vision and fulfil its scientific mission. The department works to develop and improve the quality of its outputs and to take advantage of the advanced resources provided by the university to develop learning methods and improve scientific research methods.

The department has four permanent faculty members, whom we thank for their efforts in making the educational process a success.

Description


The study began in the Department of Family and Community Medicine in 2004 under the chairmanship of Dr. Jamal Al-Bahul from 2004 to 2013. Dr. Mukhtar Muhammad Isa then took over the department from 2013 to the present. Expatriate professors from Egypt and India assisted in teaching until 2011.

Excellence and distinction in training doctors in the field of public health and epidemiology, equipping them with the necessary expertise and skills to become future doctors.

Mission


Teaching family and community medicine to fourth-year students and providing them with the knowledge they need for their future careers.

Goals


· Introduce students to the basic principles and concepts of community medicine and its various branches.

· Familiarize students with the basic components of health and disease.

· Make students aware of physical, social, psychological, economic, and environmental factors and their impact on individual and community health.

· Provide students with basic information on the epidemiology of infectious, non-infectious, and chronic diseases.

· Introduce students to the environment and health problems resulting from environmental pollution, and how to prevent them.

· Introduce students to the principles and fundamentals of primary health care and develop their ability to perform their duties as leaders of health teams.

· Acquire various skills in maternal and child care, nutrition, school health, and health education.

· Provide basic information about occupational health and environmental health.

· Acquire modern concepts of health management and health planning.

· Be able to deal with public health emergencies.

· Raise a new generation of young doctors who are fully aware of social and environmental health issues and have the ability to study these issues and develop effective programs to address and prevent them.

· How to conduct scientific research in the field of community medicine and primary health care.

· Organize educational scientific seminars and training courses in the field of community medicine, environment, and industrial medicine.
